Dental Documentary on Mercury Amalgams

Evidence of Harm, a feature documentary by Randall Moore has been released to critical acclaim, and it comes at a crucial time for the dental industry.

The feature documentary follows the lives of three Americans who, after being affected by diseases allegedly caused by absorption of mercury vapours when getting regular dental treatments, campaigned against mercury amalgam. The film focused on the dental industry that was still denying the negative effects of amalgam dental fillings.

When filmmaker Randall Moore’s father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he began researching the disease and it led to a startling discovery that his father’s dental fillings had 50 percent elemental mercury which was releasing mercury vapours at levels that are considered toxic. According to Moore, the regulatory bodies of the government had repeatedly ignored the damage mercury amalgam was inflicting on the public. Moore said that the government still refused to take action in banning mercury amalgam, in spite of scientist after scientist warning the DFA of the link between mercury and Alzheimer’s disease. Moore stated that the government’s inaction on the issue motivated him to create a documentary to make the public aware of the hazardous impact of mercury amalgam not only to public health but also to the environment worldwide.

The mercury in amalgam dental fillings could lead to a widespread epidemic of poisoned people that would go unnoticed by the healthcare system. Memory loss, chronic fatigue, emotional distress, depression, and anxiety are just a few adverse effects of mercury, as revealed by government reviews, according to Moore. The filmmaker also stated that exposure to mercury could cause cardiovascular disease, kidney dysfunction, stroke, and neurological problems.

Dentists and dental professionals were risking developing health problems when placing, polishing, and removing amalgam fillings, because the procedures released toxic levels of mercury, according to Moore. This makes mercury in dental fillings a more troubling issue.
